Cataract extraction surgery
Surgery is the only treatment for cataract, and over 95% of patients can restore their vision after surgery. After the removal of cataract, an individualised intraocular lens implant will be fitted in place for best visual outcome. Usually this microscopic surgery is performed under local anesthesia and lasts less than 30 minutes. There is no need to stay in the hospital after surgery. Most cataract are removed by ultrasound phacoemulsification. This minimally invasive approach ensures faster recovery due to a small wound size.
All patients who are considered suitable to receive traditional cataract surgery can undergo Femto Laser Cataract Surgery.
You can undergo surgery as long as you feel visually-impaired. You do not need to wait for the condition to worsen before you do so.
If you wish to return quickly to your work and family life, we strongly recommend you choose the Femto Laser Cataract Surgery which is more precise than the traditional surgery. It has a faster process and shortened recovery time.
- Like conventional surgery that requires a surgical blade, avoid drinking strong tea, coffee and alcohol before Femto Laser Cataract Surgery.

- Take your regular medication (such as for heart disease, blood pressure, diabetes etc) in a timely manner.
- Intake of Aspirin or blood thinners may need to be stopped for 4 to 7 days prior to the operation according to doctor’s advice.
- Change pillow cases and bed sheets at home after your surgery
- Follow the doctor's instructions regarding the application of eye drops (Always wash your hands before applying eye drops)

- You should eat more fruits and vegetables to stop constipation
- Wear sunglasses to avoid glare and protect your eyes
- Attend your follow-up appointments in a timely manner
- If you have a cold, flu or cough, you should head to the outpatient clinic or be treated by a family doctor straight away because frequent coughs and sneezing will affect the recovery and increase chances of an infection
- Avoid rubbing your eyes with your hands to prevent an infection or the wound from tearing
- Always tilt your head backwards when you wash your hair (limited to the 7 to 10 days after your surgery) and cover your eye area with gauze to prevent dirty water from being splashed onto the eyes
- Avoid going to crowded places or areas with polluted air to prevent being hit in the eye or catching an infection
